Custom children’s furniture designed for comfort, storage and small-space living
This small bedroom in West Malling posed a familiar challenge: limited floor space combined with a staircase bulkhead at the head of the bed. Off-the-shelf furniture simply wouldn’t work, so we designed and built a fully bespoke solution tailored to the room and its young occupant.
Space-Saving Furniture, Built to Fit
Constructed from MDF and left unfinished at the client’s request for future decorating, the bed was built to fit around the staircase bulkhead, enclosing it cleanly within the bed frame and creating a smooth, usable sleeping area. The curved side detail adds a softer, more child-friendly touch.
As with all great children’s furniture, clever storage was a priority. Two large under-bed drawers provide ample space, one with internal partitions for organising toys, clothes or bedding. A further compartment at the foot of the bed adds extra enclosed storage, ideal for less frequently used items.
Above, a row of open box shelves takes advantage of the vertical space, providing easily accessible storage without crowding the room. The result is a compact, practical layout that transforms an awkward small space into a comfortable and clutter-free bedroom, and can be readily painted to fit in with the room’s decor.
