Seamless cabinetry and durable finishes tailored for everyday use
This smart, made-to-measure utility room in West Malling was designed to combine practical storage with clean, contemporary styling. Built to make the most of a compact alcove space, the installation includes fully enclosed housing for both a washing machine and tumble dryer, with generous cabinetry above and around to keep everything neatly tucked away.
Working Around the Essentials
A key design challenge was the exposed boiler, pipework, and visible wiring, which had previously dominated the space. We built a bespoke tall cupboard to fully enclose the boiler, and carefully boxed in the pipework before integrating it seamlessly into the cabinetry above. Once decorated and painted to match, the result is clean, streamlined, and fully in keeping with the rest of the room.
On the opposite side, a matching tall cabinet provides full-height storage, with additional cupboards above the marble worktop for keeping everyday items close to hand but out of sight. A floating shelf, crafted from the same solid dark marble as the worktop, adds both style and practicality.
All cabinetry is finished in Farrow & Ball’s Card Room Green, a calm, muted tone that pairs beautifully with the rich marble surface and natural oak flooring. Simple black hardware completes the look with a modern edge.
The result is part of a broader programme of home improvements, turning a previously cluttered corner into a clean, cohesive utility room that’s both functional and beautiful, and one that adds lasting value to the home.
