Custom-built bedroom cabinetry blending classic styling with deeply personal touches
This elegant, made-to-measure wardrobe was built for a client in Blackheath who wanted a piece that felt both timeless and completely tailored, not only to the room’s proportions, but to her personal story. The design takes its cues from the classic British Edwardian style, carefully mirroring the existing detailing, cornices and architectural features of the property.
Practical Storage with a Sense of Occasion
Storage was a key priority, and the client asked us to maximise every inch of the available space without compromising accessibility. To meet that brief, we built full-height cabinetry with upper cupboards accessed via a brass ladder rail and a handmade iroko ladder, complete with a secondary storage hook discreetly mounted behind the bedroom door.
The cabinetry was hand-painted in Farrow & Ball’s All White, offering a crisp, clean finish that enhances the natural light in the room and sits beautifully against the gold accents of the rail and hardware.
An Heirloom Transformed
The standout feature of this project (and one of the most meaningful) is the glazing in each wardrobe door, which incorporates fabric from the client’s grandmother’s sari. Flown over specially for the project, the fabric was preserved between two panes of glass, creating a unique panel in every door. Not only does this bring warmth and pattern to the piece, it also anchors a family heirloom directly into the furniture in a way that’s both respectful and functional.

With generous drawer space, hanging areas, shelving and hidden upper storage, the final installation offers a practical and beautiful solution that honours the past while elevating the everyday.
