Bespoke outdoor carpentry designed for sloped ground and seamless day-to-night living
This bespoke outdoor carpentry project in Chevening involved creating a striking multi-level decking area, transforming an uneven and underused corner of the garden into a welcoming, functional space for day-to-night relaxation.
Building on a Challenging Landscape
The garden’s natural slope meant the area wasn’t practical in its original form. Before any timber was laid, we coordinated with a local Kent tree service to remove a number of small trees, shrubs, and their root systems, plus lightly prune a small tree that was to remain. This preparatory work gave us a clean, stable foundation and allowed us to frame out the levels properly without long-term issues from regrowth or shifting ground.
Using pressure-treated timber, we built a robust subframe that stepped with the terrain, allowing for clear zones within the space, ideal for both lounging and entertaining. The decking boards were then laid with precision to maintain visual continuity across the levels, and everything was coated in a hard-wearing, non-slip paint in a contemporary slate grey finish for durability and a refined look.
Finishing Touches That Elevate
To complete the space, we installed mains-wired LED lighting, recessed directly into the deck. These lights provide subtle illumination underfoot while accentuating the levels and structure of the platform, creating a beautiful ambience after dark. The result is a garden that feels modern, calm, and entirely bespoke and built for entertaining guests.

Thoughtfully designed and built to last, this multi-level deck now offers the family a stylish outdoor retreat they can enjoy from morning coffee to evening gatherings, no matter the season.
