Making Better Use of Hallway Space
This project in Sidcup involved two separate fitted furniture installations within the same hallway, both designed to improve storage while blending naturally with the existing character of the property.
The brief was not just to add storage, but to make it feel like part of the house. As with all of our bespoke carpentry work, the focus was on creating practical furniture that fits the space properly and looks right in its surroundings.
Understairs Storage Built Around the Staircase
Beneath the staircase, we designed and built a made-to-measure storage installation that makes full use of an awkward area that would otherwise go underused. The layout combines pull-out compartments and drawers, giving the client a practical mix of hidden storage for everyday items.
The cabinetry was carefully built to follow the line of the stairs, with clean margins and a fitted finish throughout. This type of work sits alongside other projects such as our understairs storage case studies, including this understairs storage and hallway closet project in Chelsea and this understairs storage solution in Rochester.

Full Height Hallway Wardrobe with Drawer Storage
At the bottom of the stairs, we also built a full height made-to-measure hallway unit, combining wardrobe-style upper storage with a run of drawers below. You could call it a hallway wardrobe, hallway dresser, or fitted entrance storage unit – the point is that it was designed specifically for the property and the way the client wanted to use the space.
This second installation adds valuable storage for coats, shoes and household items while helping the hallway feel more organised and complete. It also sits comfortably within our wider range of made-to-measure hallway furniture projects.

Built to Match the Existing Features
A big part of this job was making sure the new cabinetry looked at home in the property. The detailing was designed to tie in with the existing archway, while the painted finish was matched to the skirting boards, staircase woodwork and other joinery in the hallway.
That attention to detail is what helps fitted furniture feel settled and original, rather than obviously added later.
The End Result
The completed project transformed the hallway into a much more functional and better organised part of the home. By combining bespoke understairs storage with a full height fitted hallway unit, the client gained a substantial amount of extra storage without compromising the look of the space.
Everything was built to measure, fitted precisely and finished to sit naturally alongside the home’s existing features. You can view more local work on our Sidcup carpentry page, browse other recent projects, or get in touch to discuss a similar project.
