A Modern Alternative to Paint or Wallpaper
This project was carried out in Swanley and involved fitting acoustic wall panels across two very different spaces within the same home, each with its own requirements and character.
Acoustic panels are something we’re being asked about more and more — not just because they’re on trend, but because they offer a genuine alternative to paint or wallpaper, with added flexibility for lighting and accessories.
Living Room Feature Wall with Ambient Lighting
In the main living space, grey slate-effect acoustic panels were installed behind the sofa to create a strong feature wall. Integrated strip lighting was recessed into the panels, providing soft ambient lighting that really comes into its own in the evenings.
The combination of texture, colour, and lighting adds depth to the room without overwhelming it, giving the space a modern feel while still remaining warm and comfortable.

Sloping Ceiling Installation in American Oak
The second area presented a slightly different challenge, with panels being fitted to a section of wall beneath a sloping ceiling. For this space, American Oak acoustic panels were chosen, bringing a warmer, more natural look that works particularly well with the angles of the room.
Careful setting out was key here to ensure clean lines and a consistent finish, especially where the panels meet the ceiling slope.

Why Acoustic Panels Are So Popular
It’s easy to see why acoustic panels have become such a popular choice. Aside from the visual impact, they offer some real practical advantages:
- A clean, contemporary alternative to paint or wallpaper
- Ideal for integrating strip lighting
- Many systems allow clip-on accessories such as hooks, shelves, and organisers
Whether used as a full feature wall or on a smaller section, acoustic panels offer flexibility that traditional finishes simply don’t.
This project is a great example of how the same product can be used in different ways to suit different spaces, while still maintaining a cohesive feel throughout the home.
