Making Full Use of Bedroom Alcoves with Bespoke Wardrobes
This project in Greenwich involved building two bespoke fitted wardrobes into the alcoves either side of the bed, turning awkward dead space into practical built-in storage.
Rather than trying to force standard furniture into the room, both units were designed and made to measure so they fitted the alcoves exactly and worked properly with the layout of the bedroom. This kind of project sits naturally within our wider range of fitted bedroom furniture projects and bespoke fitted wardrobe installations.
Built Around the Shape of the Room
A key detail on this installation was the wardrobe on the right-hand side, which had to be shaped to follow the sloping line of the alcove. Rather than leaving an awkward gap or boxing it out unnecessarily, the unit was built to match the angle exactly, giving it a clean, fitted appearance.
This kind of shaped joinery is where made-to-measure furniture really comes into its own, allowing the finished wardrobes to feel like part of the room rather than an afterthought.

Practical Internal Storage
Internally, the wardrobes were designed to provide a useful combination of hanging space, shelving and drawer storage. The left-hand unit offers full-height hanging, while the angled wardrobe on the opposite side includes shelving above with three drawers below, making good use of the lower section of the alcove.
This tailored internal layout helps maximise usable storage while keeping the overall look of the room calm and uncluttered.

Finished to Match the Feature Wall
Both wardrobes were painted in Farrow & Ball Sugar Bag Light to tie in with the feature wall behind the bed. This gave the whole installation a much more settled and deliberate look, with the wardrobes framing the sleeping area rather than competing with it.
The simple panel detailing keeps the design timeless, while the colour choice gives the room a bit more personality than a standard white finish.
The End Result
The completed installation transformed two otherwise underused alcoves into smart, fully functional bedroom storage. By building the wardrobes around the exact proportions of the room, including the sloping alcove on the right-hand side, the finished result feels balanced, practical and completely at home in the space.
