Floating Display Cabinet & Alcove Storage Units in Fulham

Floating dining room display cabinet

A Complete Dining Room Transformation with Bespoke Storage

This Fulham project centred around creating a statement display feature within a dining room, combined with practical storage to elevate the overall space.

The brief was to design a large floating cabinet suitable for drinks, glassware and crockery, while also introducing matching alcove units to frame the room and tie everything together.

Floating Cabinet – Built for Strength as Well as Style

The main feature is a large wall-mounted display cabinet, designed to appear as though it is floating while safely supporting significant weight.

Due to the intended use, structural integrity was a key consideration. The unit was fixed directly into solid structural points within the wall, using heavy-duty fixings rated well above the expected load. A belt-and-braces approach was taken throughout to ensure long-term reliability and safety.

This level of detail is essential in projects like this, particularly when storing glassware and heavier items.

Glass Doors, Shelving & Integrated Lighting

The cabinet features four framed glass doors, opening to reveal internal glass shelving designed to maximise light flow throughout the unit.

Integrated LED strip lighting was installed within the cabinet, creating a soft ambient glow that enhances the display while adding warmth to the room in the evenings.

The result is a functional storage solution that also acts as a focal point within the space.

Matching Alcove Units for a Cohesive Finish

On the opposite side of the room, bespoke alcove units were installed on either side of the fireplace to balance the space and provide additional storage.

These units were designed to complement the floating cabinet, ensuring consistency in proportions, detailing, and finish across the entire room.

Finished in Farrow & Ball Whirlybird

All cabinetry was finished in Farrow & Ball Whirlybird, a soft, contemporary green that brings subtle colour into the space without overpowering it.

The finish works particularly well with the integrated lighting, enhancing the overall atmosphere and making the cabinetry feel like a considered part of the room rather than an addition.

The End Result

The completed project delivers a balanced combination of display, storage, and visual impact. The floating cabinet creates a strong focal point, while the alcove units provide symmetry and practicality.

Careful attention to structural fixing, lighting, and finish ensures the installation not only looks the part but performs reliably for years to come.
